Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens, better known as Queen Latifah in the United States is a rapper and actress. Queen Latifah's career in television and music has resulted in her receiving the Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award Six additional Grammy nominations and an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah was the daughter of an Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior, was raised and born within Newark New Jersey. Latifah's parents divorced when she was 10 years old. Latifah grew up within the Baptist faith and attended Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Her stage name Latifah which means delicate and compassionate in Arabic was bestowed to her her aunt when she was just eight years old. Latifah was who was 5'10" tall power forward for the high school team, was always a tall girl. The number she sang was"Home" from the musical The Wiz in a high school performance. Latifah was a beatboxer in her band, the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah joined the Flavor Unit's first group, which included a variety of MCs, as well as DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King recorded a rendition of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. He gave the recording to host Yo! MTV Raps, Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah in the early days and was awed by the single. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as the first single by Latifah.
