Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, an iron worker, and Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the youngest of six kids. Nancy was heavily influenced by her father's taste in music and the records that were played in her family home. When she was just 4, Nancy already knew her destiny was to be a singer. She was able to develop her talents when she sang in the church choir. When she was 15 when she was 15, she got a spot on a talent show on TV and started appearing regularly in the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while at the time she was still in high school. It was at that time that she began to work in night clubs at that at the same time. Nancy was just 17 when she graduated highschool. After attending Ohio Central State College - today Central State University - for one term, Nancy left to be an experienced performer. The first time she recorded was with the Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, with whom she performed from 1956 until 1958. Nancy made her debut album through Dot Records during the time she spent with this group. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she relocate into New York so as to enhance her career. In 1959 she moved to The Big Town. Within one month, she got a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her voice and agreed to sign her. The contract was signed with Capitol Records in the year 1960. That year, she released her first single. Guess Who I Stopped Today. Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Her first album was focused on R&B however, under Adderley's influence, she started to take on jazz. Nancy Wilson's collaboration in 1962 in 1962 with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top of the charts, and in 1963, she had her debut hit Tell Me the Truth. The performance brought her to the stage at New York Coconut Grove in 1963, which was America's biggest nightclub.
